HTC Sync Outlook 2003/2007 Issues

I ran into this very issue a year ago when I rebuilt my PC. A year later – now, unlike then – as I struggled to FINALLY resolve this issue (after banging my head for a week) I decided to document this simple fix. I would have spared myself a headache if I had done this last year.

I have the HTC Hero and was unable to sync my contacst with MS Outlook after installing Outlook and HTC Sync on my PC. Only Outlook Express was listed under “Contacts” in the Sync Manager Settings. Reinstall after reinstall produced the same results – nothing.

Here’s the fix (well at least it fixed my issue 10 minutes ago and last year); simply run Microsoft Office Diagnostics found under Microsoft Office Tools on your start menu. Let it run through 19 tests that should take no longer then 15 minutes. The next time your launch HTC Sync, you should see “MS Outlook 2000/2002/2003/2007 – Contacts” in the drop down menu under “Contacts” in the Sync Manager Settings.
