Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process to improve the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.

Optimizing a website involves “oniste” and offsite” optimization. Onsite optimization is editing site content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines making it search engine friendly.  SEO is not done on the actual website, the work is done on other websites. This external seo work will affect the ranking of your own website in the search engines.  Onsite SEO only makes up about 5% of the whole search engine optimization process.
